This exquisite French necklace from c.1850 is set with glowing Perpignan Garnets—rare, unmistakable and cherished for their vivid “raspberry cordial” hue. These Garnets were traditionally hand-cut and foil-backed in Perpignan, a city in southern France near the Spanish border. Their colour and light are unlike any other Garnet type: bright, juicy and almost holographic, with deep berry tones that flash as you move. Today, authentic antique Perpignan Garnets are highly sought after, as production was local, small-scale, and ceased over a century ago.
This necklace showcases the style at its most romantic: graduated cabochon domes, each closed-back and finished with delicate matching drops. At the centre lies a discreet hinged loop hidden behind the largest Garnet—an ingenious original feature allowing you to add a charm, drop or tassel if desired, yet completely invisible when not in use.

MEASUREMENTS: Necklace is 16.25" long. Garnets graduate from 10mm down to 5.8mm. Droplets graduate from 4.4mm down to 3mm.
WEIGHT: 27.9g
MATERIALS: French 18ct Gold, Perpignan Garnets.
HALLMARKS: French Eagle’s Head marks on the clasp; tests as 18ct Gold throughout.
Since we have dated this piece as being made before 1950, a hallmark is not required in order for it to be sold in line with UK hallmarking legislation.
PACKAGING: Your order will be gift-wrapped free of charge in a Lillicoco cardboard box made from recycled materials, tied with a ribbon.
Condition
VERY GOOD: The Garnets are beautifully matched, secure, and display their signature Perpignan fire with no issues visible when worn. The closed-back settings show a few gentle dings to the reverse, in keeping with a well-loved 19th-century French jewel, while the front presents in exceptional condition. The drops are intact, the articulated links move smoothly, and the original French-stamped clasp is strong and secure.

Layaway Installment Plans
A layaway is an interest-free payment plan that enables you to reserve an item with an initial deposit, and then pay the balance over 60 days.
Layaway is very popular with Lillicoco customers, particularly when making a more considered purchase.
How It Works
In total, you will make three payments over three months:
Day 1: 33.33%
Day 30: 33.33%
Day 60: 33.33%
Your layaway purchase is reserved for you as soon as the initial payment has been taken.
Your order is shipped once the full balance has been paid.
All of our usual terms and conditions apply with a layaway purchase, although 15% of the invoice total is nonrefundable in case of cancellation or return, acting as an administration fee.
A layaway is not a loan, nor is it a form of credit. A credit check is not required to put an item on layaway, and missing a payment will not affect your credit score.
If you do not complete your layaway on schedule your reservation may be cancelled and your payments may be refunded, minus the administration fee.
